Instrument Rentals

It is strongly recommended that students rent instruments through Graner Music if they do not already own their own instrument. Graner is located in Colorado Springs, 4460 Barnes Rd. Please feel free to contact them at any time at (719) 574-2001. There are school instruments available to rent for those families who are unable to rent through Graner. School instruments are available for $10 per year, and there is a limited selection so a student may not get their first pick of instrument. Students take full responsibility of their instruments during the school year: this means cleaning and repairs.

Symphonic High School Band
This band is for all high school band students, and takes place during 8th period 3:02-4:00 PM. Classes are only one semester long, but it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that students participate in band for the whole year. Only students who participate for the whole year are allowed to go to the Elitch Gardens Music Festival at the end of the year. Required performances include, but are not limited to, all Bulldog Pep Band performances, Winter and Spring concerts, large group festivals, and Graduation. Symphonic Band members will get the opportunity to play with various college bands and a chance to participate in honor bands all over Colorado with other high schoolers. Musicians also get the opportunity to Letter (see lettering requirements in handbook). Students who have never played an instrument before but are interested in joining the Symphonic Band, come see Ms. Gerczynski and find an instrument that works for you!

Intermediate Concert Band
This band is for all middle school students who have previously played an instrument in 6th grade or at another school. Talk to Ms. Gerczynski if you are unsure if you qualify for this band. This class takes place during 6th period, 1:09-2:04 PM. Classes are one semester long, but it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that students participate in band for the whole year. Only students who participate for the whole year are allowed to go to the Elitch Gardens Music Festival at the end of the year. Required performances include, but are not limited to, Winter and Spring concerts, large group festivals, and Graduation. There are many extra credit opportunities if students wish to participate in the Bulldog Pep Band for football games, basketball games, parades, and more! Band members get the chance to participate in Solo & Ensemble Festival and various honor bands in various regions of Colorado with other middle school band students. Students who have never played an instrument before need to join the Beginning Concert Band.

Beginning Concert Band
This band is for every 6th grader and middle school student who has never played an instrument before. If a student is a 6th grader and has been playing for more than one year or takes private lessons then talk to Ms. Gerczynski about joining the Intermediate Concert Band. This class takes place during 7th period, 2:07-3:02 PM. Classes are one semester long, but it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that students participate in band for the whole year. Only students who participate in band for the whole year are allowed to go to the Elitch Gardens Music Festival at the end of the year. Required performances include, but are not limited to, Winter and Spring concerts, large group festivals, and Graduation. There are many extra credit opportunities if students wish to participate in the Bulldog Pep Band for football games, basketball games, parades, and more! Band members get the chance to participate in Solo & Ensemble Festival, and a chance to play in elementary and middle school honor bands in various regions of Colorado with other middle school band students.

5th Grade Concert Band
Every Calhan 5th grader is required to be in band for a full year. This is a transition year from Quaver Music to Beginning Band where students can apply their knowledge of music with various instruments. Students get the chance to create and improvise their own music, demonstrate basic knowledge of music notation, learn how to critique themselves in a healthy manner for improvement and success, perform two concerts for an audience, and hopefully open the door a little wider for music to enter their lives in a meaningful way. The Winter and Spring concerts are mandatory performances. Students need to provide their own instruments. Calhan has a limited number of school instruments to rent out. The best way to ensure that a students plays an instrument that they want to play is by renting an instrument through Graner Music.

Kindergarten through 4th Grade.
Quick link to Quaver Music! After logging in, you and your student can navigate through Quaver's Marvelous World of Music. There are many opportunities to create your own music, play music theory games, and even explore the world through music. If you are unsure of how to login or don't know your access code, please contact Ms. Gerczynski!
