I hope the summer vacation has been good for each and every one of the high school community. School will begin August 14^th at 8:00 am. All high school students will meet in the new gym for a brief orientation session prior to their first class. The first week of school is very important as students are provided the information they will need to be successful during the 2009-09 school year. During the first week each class will hold a meeting to elect officers and begin planning for the unique responsibilities for their class. Organizations and clubs will hold informational meetings, and fall athletics will begin.

Please anticipate your son/daughter bringing home a copy of the High School Handbook the first day of school. It is very important you read over the handbook with your student(s). Important information regarding attendance, behavior expectations, dress code, and various Board of Education policies should be read carefully. Teachers will provide a syllabus to each student for each class. A list of specific supplies can be found on the syllabus for the respective class. In general students should bring three ringed binders and paper, pens, pencils, at least one highlighter marker, and if possible an external memory stick (jump-drive).

The returning teachers are anxious to begin the school year, and are pleased to welcome a new member. Please become acquainted with our new faculty member Mr. John Allen. Mr. Allen will join Mr. Keller in the math department.

The High School will host an open house August 21^st . Parent teacher conferences are scheduled for September 16^th from 2:30-7:30 pm. I encourage parents to contact teachers with questions or concerns prior to the first parent teacher conference. Please see the office staff to set up a parent access code for the parent portal component of our grading system so that you can have access to your student(s) grades at any time via the internet. Consistent parent monitoring and open discussions regarding expectations and performance will pave the way to s successful academic year for your child. Teachers may be reached by leaving a message on their classroom phone, email, or by setting up an appointment to meet in person during their plan time. August 18^th at 6:00 pm. I will host a special orientation for freshman parents in room 314. I will cover strategies for student success (study skills etc.), behavior expectations, and provide time for questions.

The traditional homecoming activities begin September 12^th with a Pep Rally and continue through the 13^th with the parade in the morning and the football game in the afternoon against Las Animas. The dance for high school students begins at 8:00 and concludes at 11:00 pm.
