Elementary School News

Welcome back to school! I hope you all had an enjoyable and restful summer vacation! The first day of school for elementary is Tuesday, August 19^th. Testing dates are scheduled for Thursday, August 14^th and Friday, August 15^th. You have been notified by mail when we need your child for assessment. Please call the office at 347-2766 if you have any questions related to the testing schedule.

New Teachers at Calhan

I am thrilled to welcome Mrs. Lynell Andrews to the 4^th grade instructional team. She comes to Calhan with 10 years of teaching experience in New Mexico and just completed a year of teaching in Colorado Springs. Mrs. Andrews and her husband live in the Calhan area and are excited about getting to know the people in our community.

Mrs. Rebekah Opperman will be teaching Art to the students at Calhan. A University of Northern Colorado graduate, she is excited to be at Calhan School and can’t wait to meet our students! Mrs. Opperman and her husband live east of Calhan in the Ramah area. Welcome, Rebekah!

Coffee with the Principal

Please join me on the second Wednesday of each month from 8:00 am – 9:00 am for a cup of coffee and an informal time of sharing. There will be a question and answer time for parents to ask any general questions they may have. This is a great opportunity to know your school’s principal and learn more about the happenings at Calhan Elementary and Middle School. The dates for 2008/2009 are: September 10^th , October 8^th, November 12^th, December 10^th, January 14^th , February 11^th, March 11^th, and April 8^th. I look forward to seeing you!

Teacher/Class Selection for 2008/09

The Calhan Elementary staff will be creating class lists for the 2008-09 school year. We work hard to be completely fair and unbiased in the selection of which teacher your child will have this next fall. Things we consider: equal gender split, equal abilities split, friendships, and personalities. We will continue to do our best in making certain the fit is right! All decisions will be made by the elementary staff with each and every child’s best interest at heart!
